Let’s talk about New Girl- Julie Berkman’s Older Sister

Yes. So good. Thank you, New Girl gods for getting it right. SO right. The guys off doing their sponge thing. The girls off meeting Jess’s dad’s new girlfriend. It was great.

I love Rob Reiner as Bob. He fits in so nicely with the rest of these idiots and he is perfect for Jess’s dad. I’ve always believed that. Kaitlin Olson as his new, much younger girlfriend? Even better. She killed it. Her past with Jess and Cece was hilarious. The proposal– Jess lying limp in her father’s arms while holding up the ring– so good.

Schmidt’s off at work trying to win a sponge account. And he’s not doing so great. He’s Schmidt, of course he’s not doing great. But, he’s brought he guys in for some brainstorming and then some focus group rigging. And he still fails miserably. Schmidt and Nick were on fire this episode, though. Now that they’re sharing a room, things have gotten a little heated. It’s like they’re back in college. But it’s worse because they’re grown ass men. It’s Nick’s slovenly ways, though, that inspires Schmidt and wins him the sponge account. So, all’s well that ends well.

Sometimes, this show makes me laugh so hard. And other times it makes me cringe. Last night’s episode was a good one. It had me laughing, for sure. I must say, a lot of that credit goes to Schmidt and Nick. They’re too good together. Put them in any scene, playing off of each other, and I’m done for.

Let’s talk about New Girl- Dice

I’m not going to lie, I was a little distracted last night, so this won’t be very long or in depth at all.

I never realize how much I love the Jess-Schmidt dynamic until they have a separate storyline from the rest of the group. I love them together. They’re so different, so they are always so funny. Schmidt coaching her through Dice (which is basically just Tinder) was great because we all know that’s not the type of girl Jess is. However, it’s exactly the kind of man Schmidt is. I don’t know, I just love the two of them together, causing trouble.

I didn’t really care about the other four, though. The getting Coach high for the first time story just wasn’t funny to me. It could have been, but something about it didn’t make me laugh. I can’t pinpoint it. Although, high (same as drunk) Nick Miller is THE BEST. He’s so freaking funny.

Last week reminded me of season 1/early season 2 New Girl, but last night was like late season 2/season 3. It just didn’t stand up. We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out, though.

Let’s talk about New Girl- The Last Wedding

Um, I didn’t realize how much I missed these fools until they were back on my screen causing a ruckus. I laughed SO much during this episode and it just made me so happy. Season 3 was rough. I think everyone can agree to that. Nick and Jess may be meant to be, but not now. Man, they both have a lot to do before they can even think about settling down with anyone, let alone each other. That’s okay. I want to watch that ride.

I was pleasantly surprised by Jessica Biel, guys. She was hilarious and a perfect person to go head to head with Jess. Reid Scott could have been utilized a little more. I feel like he was just there. And he is SO good in Veep and My Boys. He could have fit right in. But, I get it, last night’s episode wasn’t about Jess and Ted. It was about Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Winston, Cece, and Coach.

FINALLY! I love when the group is an actual group. I loved early season one when every episode would end with them all together. We got that last night and I feel like we have a lot more of that to look forward to. I hope so. That is what made me fall in love with the show in the first place.

We got some good group action for sure, but we also got some AMAZING Nick and Schmidt scenes. Those are my favorites, right behind the group ones. Nick and Schmidt, Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield, are so funny together. They have some real comedic chemistry and it radiates on screen every single time. Last night, they were on fire and even though Schmidt didn’t get that four way, it’s probably for the best. Nick’s hoof hands and all.

Yeah, so last night was the twelfth and last wedding of the summer. Schmidt and Coach had a great summer, hooking up with girls, wedding after wedding. Winston, Nick, and Jess, though, had a bit of a dry summer and this wedding was the last chance for ALL of them to go home with someone. No one actually did, but they got to go home together with their newly returned and single friend, Cece.

I’m excited for season four. I can’t wait to see more of the group, more Cece and Schmidt(?), and how the Nick/Jess relationship is navigated.

Let’s talk about New Girl- Dance

The episode was so much fun. I loved that everyone had a role and that the guys are literally the dumbest boys in school. Coach was, as usual, awesome. I like Coach Coach and the fact that he works with Jess, so he really has an understanding of her and how she operates. It’s nice that one of the guys has that ability.

Nick, Schmidt, and Winston in the bathroom was awesome. It’s fun to see the three of them just being them. Which is the three of them being hilarious and stupid and mean to each other and just, all around, amazing.

Like I said, it was a fun episode even though Jess and Nick are still suffering. They were able to touch upon that but still keep it light and focus on everyone. Just the way I like it.

Let’s talk about New Girl- Big News

You know, for the first time in quite a while, I was completely happy with last night’s episode. Don’t get me wrong, there have been great moments throughout season 3, but last night was the first time it truly felt like the New Girl I fell in love with.
I’m honestly not saying that has anything to do with Nick and Jess not being together. That was the main focus of the episode, actually. It’s just a matter of the characters falling back into who they used to be and the group mentality coming back. I’ve missed that group quite a bit. I remember in season 1 that the episodes seemed to almost always end with the four (or 5, including Cece) of them together. Now, we’re up to six thanks to the brilliance of Coach and it just works.
I also think that the writers and actors did a phenomenal job with the breakup. It wasn’t just Nick and Jess dealing with it, and they knew that would be an issue from the beginning, it was all of them. Poor Schmidt, a child of divorce, didn’t take it so well. Winston, who finally got into the police academy, put his celebration on the back burner so his friends could mourn the end of their relationship. And then Cece and Coach were there for Nick and Jess when no one else knew what was going on. Everyone had a role, everyone had a reaction. It felt real.
Don’t get me started on that last scene, though. Ugh, so much heartbreak. At the beginning, Nick and Jess discussed how they were both taking the breakup so well; he wasn’t leaving her drunken voicemails and she wasn’t crying to Dirty Dancing. It was all an act, obviously, and once that was known, they did what they always did at the time of a breakup.
She cuddled up on the couch with her tissues and pink wine. He sat in his room with his whisky (maybe?) and cellphone. And they had a real, honest talk. And funny. And sweet. Nick called her honey and Jess smiled and I wanted to cry.
I don’t know where these two are headed, but for the first time in a while, I’m really excited to find out.

EDIT: I totally forgot to express my excitement for the return of Tran. He was also there for Nick when he needed someone to talk to. Those tow have the best, weirdest relationship in the world. I kind of want someone from the group to stumble upon them in the park one day.

Let’s talk about friendships

I know, I know- Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. And I was going to make a post that would reflect this particular holiday. However, I am as single as it gets and decided that I didn’t want to look at a bunch of happy couples on my blog. I want to look at some awesome friendships that make me realize it doesn’t matter whether or not I have a man in my life. As long as I have someone I love, Friday is just another great start to a weekend.

The Rookies- Rookie Blue

image

If you haven’t noticed, Rookie Blue is my favorite show. I actually had a tough time choosing between the rookies and Sam and Oliver, but the show is called Rookie Blue for a reason.

Andy, Traci, Gail, Chris, and Dov are the original rookies and among the five of them, there are some amazing dynamics. Really, any combination of the five works. When the five are together, it works even better. I love these guys. I even love Nick Collins. He makes things a little complicated because he keeps sleeping with one of the originals, but when things are calm, the six of them mesh really well. Let’s hope season five brings some of that calm, huh?

The Friends- Friends

image

Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross. The best friendship in television history, if I do say so myself. Can I point out a specific scene? Good, because I was going to anyway.

The six of them are in the living room, scattered around the coffee table when a knock sounds on the front door. They look at each other’s faces, confused, as Phoebe counts the amount of people in the room. Who could possibly be knocking on the door when all six of them are already there?

I love that scene! They get that it’s weird to just have the six of them and no other friends, but it works. Like, that’s all there is to it. The six of them are friends, lifelong friends, that only need each other.

Shawn and Gus – Psych

image

These two are hilarious, right? They’ve been friends since, well, forever. There are all those flashbacks of the two of them growing up together only to bring it back to the present where they’re still hanging out, working together and being best friends. Gus is the ultimate sidekick and most of the time he doesn’t even mind it. He’s there for Shawn because Shawn is his best friend and together they are saving Santa Barbara.

Schmidt and Nick- New Girl

image

They’ve been roommates for over ten years now (well, I guess not anymore) and they have definitely had their rough times. We all know Schmidt is kind of a douche, but we love him a whole lot, right? I mean, I know I do! And Nick Miller is a bit of a mess, but we also love him. Put ‘em together and they’re a couple of wild and crazy guys. Their Tinfinity was the epitome of Schmidt and Nick— Schmidt made sure that it was perfect and that everything was made out of tin. Nick’s whole life turned into a battle to get their party guests to use his used port-a-potty. And then the two of them fought before ultimately being there for each other. Because they are best friends.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all of the roommates and I love them all together. However, it’s these two and their fights about cookies that make everything worth it.

Sherlock and Joan- Elementary

image

I know that a lot of people want to see these two end up together and maybe I do, too. But, for now, I am really loving the close knit friendship they’ve got going. Sherlock doesn’t open up much, but when he does it’s to Joan. And Joan was really confused about what she wanted out of her life up until she started as Sherlock’s sober companion. Now, the two of them are working together with the NYPD to solve crimes. Their chemistry is great and, yeah, maybe it will lead to something more one day, but where they’re at is pretty great, right?

The Gang- How I Met Your Mother

image

I could have done almost any combination of Ted, Marshall, Lily, Barney, and Robin. I’m not going to, though. The five of them together, sitting around their usual table at MacLaren’s or in Ted and Marshall’s (originally) apartment. This last season has been a little tough for me, because I hated the division. I know it was mostly just Marshall on his own, but that’s hard enough. And, okay, there are relationship issues- Ted and Robin, anyone?- but friendship comes first. Plus, quotes from this show find their way into my daily vocabulary and that’s always a plus!

Max and Brad- Happy Endings

image

Don’t even get me started on how much I miss this show! I could go on and on, but I won’t. As much as I love the entire, insane group, it’s Max and Brad that I miss the most. They made the least sense on paper- Brad was super successful, had a beautiful wife, and always dressed to impress. Max was broke as all hell, drove around a 1980’s limo to scam tourists, and regularly shared his bed with a pizza. Yet, Max and Brad were THE BEST. The dancing, the jokes, the unbreakable bond- the two of them rocked Chicago.

Rory and Lane- Gilmore Girls

image

I wanted to end this list on some of my favorite girl friends. First, I’m focusing on Rory Gilmore and Lane Kim from my beloved Gilmore Girls. They bonded over music- the more obscure, the better. Rory and Lorelai’s house was Lane’s home away from home, a home where she could be who she wanted to be. For the majority of their lives, they only had each other and, yeah, eventually they got other friends and boyfriends, but they always remained best friends.

Penny and Bernadette and Amy- The Big Bang Theory

image

For a long, long time Penny was the only girl in a group of super nerdy guys. And it worked, it really did. Things really rounded out, though, when Bernadette and then Amy fell in love with a couple of those nerds. Penny finally had a couple of girls to chat with. She no longer had to split her time between the longing looks from Leonard and the more than confusing talks with Sheldon. Sure, Amy can be a little strange in her own right, but she’s there for Penny and Bernadette. Just like they’re there for her.

Fiona and Veronica- Shameless

image

Fiona Gallagher does not have a simple life. She never has and, by the looks of it, she never will. But she does have some pretty great friends in her neighbors, Veronica a Kevin. Especially Veronica. Fiona had to be an adult WAY too soon. She basically started raising her siblings at the age of six and when the show started, she was a 21 year old taking care of her five siblings. Right away, we found out that Veronica was her only escape from the mess that was her family. When she didn’t have to make breakfast and change diapers, she spent her time at clubs with Veronica- dancing or working, at least they had each other.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Veronica and Wallace- Veronica Mars

Lorelai and Sookie- Gilmore Girls

Rusty and Cappy- Greek

Brennan and Angela- Bones

Team Arrow (Oliver, Dig, and Felicity)- Arrow

Now, don’t get me wrong, I could have done a list of my top 50 ships of all time. Maybe I will one day! Also, if you’re in love, great! But, you’ve all still got friends, right? And they’re there for you no matter what, right? So, I wanted to focus on some fictional friendships to reflect that. I’m most likely spending tomorrow night with a friend or two because when you’re single, you’ve got to stick together!

Let’s talk about first kisses

After last night’s episode of The Mindy Project, I decided to put together a list of my favorite television first kisses. I’m sure this has been done to death, but not by me. So, lucky you!

There’s no way I could rank them, because of the twelve I’ve chosen, they’re all way too good. So, I’m gonna do this chronologically. Starting with…

image

Ross and Rachel

I like that this one is first, because Friends is my all time favorite show. Ross and Rachel are my original OTP. I don’t care that I was five years old when this kiss first occurred. I remember how I felt when I first watched it and I know I wanted to be kissed like that one day and I wanted to have a group of friends I could gush over it with.

image

Pacey and Joey

Umm, Pacey Witter is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. And watching him pine for Joey Potter during season 3 (and 5 and 6) was a little rough for me. I needed this to happen. Once it did, I was so happy. So, so happy. As much as the audience was expecting it to happen eventually, Joey was living in denial and had no idea it was coming. Which, in my opinion, makes it even better.

image

Luke and Lorelai

It took a long ass time to get to this kiss. But it was worth every bickering filled second. Luke and Lorelai were one of those couples that just made sense. Their undeniable love was buried in their arguing and it made you want to shut them in a room together until they figured it out like the rest of us.

image

Logan and Veronica

I don’t know, these two are troubled and full of drama, but they belong together. Throughout season one, they went from hating each other to not being able to stay away from each other. And it continued on like that through the next two seasons. As painful as their relationship is at times, their chemistry is ridiculously undeniable. I need them to make it work in the movie. I just do and I really hope I get what I want.

image

Sam and Andy

I know I said I wasn’t going to rank these, but this is my all time favorite first kiss. Who doesn’t love a girl who takes charge? Clearly, Sam Swarek does- as evident by his willingness to kiss back. Also, can we talk about the fact that this happened in the seventh episode of the FIRST SEASON! Seven episodes in and these two are already making everyone else on this list look like a bunch of amateurs.

image

Shawn and Juliet

Look at that, another take charge kind of girl. These two hit it off the second they met in that diner in season one. And Jules wouldn’t let it happen because they worked together and things didn’t need to get messy. Also, Shawn had a little growing up to do in the four and a half seasons leading up to this moment. They’ve gone through a lot together, and I just hope they can make it through season eight intact.

image

Castle and Beckett

An undercover kiss to start it all. Now look at them, planning a September wedding together. This is one of those couples that I love all of the time. Ever since they got together, I have never doubted whether or not they belong together. I don’t what it is, but Castle and Beckett are doing right.

image

Ben and Leslie

Leslie Knope is not a woman who needs a man, but when she and Ben Wyatt started working together, their connection was indisputable. Ben and Chris were the best things that ever happened to this show, Ben especially. Parks and Rec would not be where it is without him and his nerdy accounting jokes. Leslie Knope would not be who she is without his unwavering support.

image

Nick and Jess

Can I, like, get this kiss tattooed on the inside of my eyelids? Because it’s perfect and spontaneous and so, very hot. Who knew Nick Miller had it in him, huh? And last night he proved he was not only a good kisser, but a pretty awesome boyfriend as well. I’m really interested to see where these two are headed. The first “I love you” is gonna be soon, I can feel it.

image

Don and Sloan

I am so happy that this show was picked up for a third season. If I didn’t get to see what happens with these two after this kiss, I would have screamed. I think it’s safe to say that most people hated Don when the show started. I don’t know when it is that I switched teams, but oh my god, did I switch teams. Don Keefer is amazing. Sloan Sabbith is amazing. Put them together and they are impressive.

image

Hook and Emma

I grew up thinking Captain Hook was a villain. Then he sails right into Storybrooke and falls for the savior and he is the man of my dreams. Emma made him remember what it’s like to care about someone other than himself. Hook made her remember what it’s like to feel something again. Unfortunately, all memories of her very brief time with Hook were taken from her in order to save her family and friends. So, let’s skip forward to March 9 and see just how Hook plans to get her to remember him and the rest of the Enchanted Forest characters, shall we?

image

Danny and Mindy

Time to talk about the kiss that started this whole post. Danny Castellano and Mindy Lahiri, making out on a plane. What?! He just went for it and it was even better than I had imagined. I always knew it would be him, because he’s the only one who really seems to notice what’s going on between them. I was kind of terrified that when it happened, Mindy would push him away, especially now that she wanted Cliff back. I was beyond ecstatic when she kissed him right back, though. And now we have to wait more than two months to see what happens next. I CAN’T DO THAT.

*None of the above gifs are mine. I found them all on Google. I apologize if anyone is offended I used them. I will take them down if requested.
