Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Everlasting

Is it weird that I’m not really worried about that very last scene? Like, I know Rookie Blue‘s timeline has always been iffy at best, but… Yeah, I’m not too concerned. Maybe I’m just in denial, but I really don’t think that’s the case.

  • That scene with Sam, Andy, and Marlo was pretty awkward, though, huh? I kind of loved seeing Sam squirm like that. But, I think, the most important part of the whole scene was the fact that Andy told Sam why she was uncomfortable with Marlo being around and her bringing Sam coffees. And I LOVED that Sam insisted that her sudden reappearance would not ruin his honeymoon phase with Andy. I mean, these two are growing up right before our very eyes and I love it so much.
  • Ted McDonald is still on the loose when the episode starts out. And he’s running amok all over the place, putting bombs on judges cars while they’re off getting married. So insensitive. He’s after the judge because she was in charge of the case against the bomber that killed Ted’s son and and Ted’s sure the whole thing was the police’s doing. Well, Andy and Oliver get to the wedding in time to make sure no one gets hurt while ETF Bailey and his men disarm the bomb that was planted on the judge’s personal car.
  • Oliver and Andy find Ted at his son’s grave and bring him in. You know, if there’s one thing I love more than a McSwarek partnership, it’s a McShaw partnership. They kick ass and take names every single time. I love that Oliver hit the streets even though John Jarvis didn’t want him to. That’s the thing about Oliver, though, he’s a blue shirt at heart. And he’s damn proud of it. I love Oliver so much!
  • Back at the station, while Sam is questioning Ted, he finds out there are more bombs. So, Marlo and Dov are geeking out over the Intelligence software while Andy and Traci figure out that the tip Duncan got was actually from Ted McDonald himself. That leads them to figure out that Ted’s not targeting the people responsible for his son’s death and the dropped case, but he is targeting their children. Sick, right? An eye for an eye. Sam somehow gets him to give up the location of the next bomb and Oliver and Chloe go and take care of the teenage boy and his friends.
  • Andy’s back at the station at this point, filling out the paperwork necessary for her and Oliver’s bust. At one point, Sam goes to ask Marlo a question about McDonald’s computer and hard drive and Marlo sends Andy off to pick it up in evidence. At this point, she and Sam have another frank discussion about what is going on with Marlo and how Andy feels she’s trying to undermine her. As much as Sam doesn’t understand the ways of women, he does want to. Instead, he just goes back to work while Andy goes up to evidence.
  • He’s back with McDonald when an alarm starts sounding, though, and no one on the first floor seems to know what’s going on. All of a sudden, officers run down the stairs and Sam runs up them to see what’s going on and where Andy is. When he gets there, the whole floor is black and covered in soot. A bomb went off in evidence and Sam fights his way through the mess to get to Andy. She was in the room, but is totally fine. She just can’t hear very well, so it take Sam a bit to find her. When he does, she asks if he’s crying and he claims it’s only the smoke. He was sure she was dead. He was terrified.
  • When he gets back to Ted, he’s slit his wrists and is dead in the interrogation room. Chris (oh yeah, Chris is back and he seems to be back to normal. He and Sam talked about it and he’s… dry)is sure that he searched McDonald in booking, but he’ll take the blame if he has to. Because if he messed up, he knows enough that he needs to man up.
  • Some other goings on at 15–
  • Gail told Holly about adopting Sophie just as Holly was about to ask her to move to San Francisco. Things clearly aren’t looking good for these two. But, I’m okay with it honestly. Gail deserves to be happy and I think Sophie will do that way more than Holly.
  • Nick ran into that lady that bought his toothbrushes a few weeks back. And then he stalks her to a coffee shop. Then, they make out on the street. And he’s looks like he’s about to get some good lovin’ until she finds out he’s a cop and bails. What the hell? If I was making out with someone like Nick Collins and found out he was a cop, I’d be way more inclined to keep making out with him.
  • Dov and Chloe are dunzo. She tries to get him back with a little red dress she was planning on wearing to the commissioner’s gala, but he’s not having it. Marlo asked him if he loved her and he does, but he can’t trust her. Marlo seems to think that’s okay, that they can work through that. I don’t think I agree with her, but I do hope the two of them work it out.
  • And this is when Dov finds a sonogram on a desk that Marlo was working on. We don’t know who it belongs to, but I think we’re supposed to believe it’s Marlo’s and that we’re supposed to believe it’s of a baby that belongs to Sam. This is what I’m not worried about. I don’t think Marlo is pregnant with Sam’s kid. She’d either already have given birth or be about to pop. She sure as hell didn’t look like she was about to pop. And if she did have a kid and it is Sam’s, how could she not tell him months ago? I mean, yes, it’s possible, but I just don’t think it’s the case. Why the hell would she just leave it on a desk? Like, really?
  • Oh, and are they setting up a relationship with Traci and ETF Bailey? They spent the whole episode talking about fairytales and he seemed like he wanted to be the reality he told her to start living in…

The only thing I’m worried about is surviving another Rookie Blue hiatus. Oh, and the fact that 5b might be the last season. I need more than 11 episodes. I just really, really do.

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Exit Strategy

I really liked this episode. I don’t know, it just had a lot of elements that reminded me of classic Rookie Blue. While Dov and Chris were trapped inside the house, didn’t it remind you of 2×04 when Andy was stuck in the laundromat or 2×05 when Dov was stuck on that booby trap? It couldn’t have just been me…

I liked a lot of elements here. I LOVED the McPeck, the Dov and Chris, the Traci and Steve, and (obviously) the McSwarek. What I didn’t love was the Oliver Shaw pain.

  • McPeck were paired as officers were designated to patrol a quiet neighborhood. And Andy is still pissed about the Duncan/Oliver situation so she was “mean Andy” all day. Gail loved it. And I loved seeing them working together and actually talking. Hell, Gail even joked about the Nick situation. And was it just me or did Andy look disgusted when that whole thing was brought up?
  • We first saw Chris sitting in a support group meeting. Except his name was Dave. Real smooth, Diaz. I didn’t buy it for a second when he came out and told Dov that he had a great time and it was a great idea. Which, yay me, because Dov found a text on his phone from his dealer saying he could pick up his stash after work. It’s got to be a new dealer, right? That guy had to cut him loose. Anyway… This is when Chris throws Dov’s brother (Adam?) in his face. He later apologized when they were trapped in the house with the kid who had just shot himself and the gas was leaking, but still. Not cool, Chris. Not cool. I’m glad Chris has Dov, though, because at least he has someone. And I got a little emotional at the station when Dov was about to tell Oliver about the drugs, when he said he would either find him hanging from the ceiling or he’d tell Oliver and lose him anyway. Thankfully, Chris manned up and told Oliver himself.
  • Steve Peck had a big illegal gambling bust planned. He had a whole team, led by Nick, and all was going according to plan until John Jarvis told Oliver to call off the dogs and relocate the uniforms to the streets. Eventually, after a pep talk from Sam, Oliver let Steve go ahead with his bust. YAY, right? Wrong. Because before that happened, Traci got word that Dex decided to fight for sole custody and spousal support and with the best lawyer in the city. So, Steve showed Traci pictures from his gambling ring and, low and behold, Dex is getting his money to pay for his fancy lawyer by gambling illegally. After the bust is back on track, Traci goes to Dex and tells him not to go gamble because she doesn’t want to see him go to jail. Well, apparently Dex has a big mouth, because NO ONE was there. Steve’s bust was a… bust. (Too cheesy?) Needless to say, he’s none too pleased with Traci. But… He still took full responsibility when Traci tried to ‘fess up to Oliver. That says something.
  • Sam and Andy were not the focus here, but they definitely had some good scenes. The episode started with them out to breakfast where Andy was venting about her sitch with Oliver. Sam just listened and kissed her to get her through the day. It was all very much EVERYTHING I’VE EVER WANTED. Okay, too much. They worked together a little bit with the questioning and Sam tried to get her to talk to Oliver throughout the day. Smiles were shared between them like it was the most natural thing in the world. This is what I live for…
  • Oliver, my dear, sweet, Papa Shaw. He’s not taking things well– he hates being a white shirt. He hates fighting with Andy. He hates being a hardass. But he has to be. 15 is far from a well oiled machine and, as much as he hates it, it’s his job to make it look like one. When Andy finally goes to talk to him, he’s just finished talking to Chris about the cocaine and to Steve about the busted bust. Even though he and Andy didn’t fix much, if anything, he’s at least happy they talked. It was the best part of his day.

I liked seeing the case play out in this one. I liked seeing Andy and Sam outside the house, concerned for Dov and Chris, but also working together to make sure they could get out alive. I didn’t like poor Chloe dealing with the possible loss of Dov, but, at the same time, he can’t really keep Chris’s secret and be the boyfriend he needs to be. It’s not fair to her, but it’s also not fair to him. Which leads me to…

After the promo:

Chloe and Wes are getting a divorce. And… kissing? We’ll see and so will everyone else because the officers of 15 Division are now required to wear cameras on their shifts. This is going to be interesting…

Oh, and I think this episode is called Moving Day… Who’s moving and where?

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Deal With the Devil

A deal has been made alright. Was it with the devil? I hope not. Oliver has enough on his plate, he doesn’t need to contend with the devil. In case I haven’t made it abundantly clear, I love Oliver Shaw very much. I love his relationships with every single person he interacts with. He’s more than a friend, he’s more than a boss. He’s Oliver.

  • This episode began with a round of drinks shared among friends– Oliver, Sam, and Andy. They were celebrating Oliver’s last week as staff sergeant and he seemed so happy to take off the white shirt. Oliver and Sam are the strongest friendship we have on Rookie Blue and Oliver’s relationship with Andy has always been one of my favorite dynamics. It’s no secret I love Sam and Andy together and Oliver has been pro-McSwarek since, like, season 1, so the three of them together was like heaven for me.
  • Andy had her hearing about Duncan. It was supposed to be in two weeks, but got moved up to two hours. So, she and Oliver scrambled to make sense of the reports she fudged in Duncan’s favor to make sure that she didn’t come out as unfit or at fault. It seemed to be going okay until we found out that Andy had spoken with Duncan at the Penny the week before– something she was not supposed to do.
  • Duncan, whom I now hate with a burning passion, recorded the entire conversation where Andy, being Andy, took a good amount of blame for his misgivings as a rookie. That evidence was enough to drag out the investigation which Inspector Jarvis assured Oliver would lead to McNally no longer working at 15.
  • So, here comes the deal. Oliver agreed to take the permanent position as staff sergeant if Jarvis discontinued the investigation and the issue got handled internally. This, in turn, would mean that Duncan gets to come back to work and Oliver took responsibility for entrusting Andy, who he felt was not ready, with being a TO. Needless to say, Andy didn’t take that too well. In fact, over a basketball game with Sam (so freaking cute that he’d make a fool of himself to make her feel better) she made it quite clear that she was not pleased with “Staff Sergeant Shaw.”
  • Elsewhere, Oliver had to deal with Izzy Shaw being suspended from school and dropped off at the station by Zoe Shaw. Obviously, he’s a smidge busy with the Andy/Duncan situation, so he makes Gail watch over her while she heads down to the morgue to get Holly’s help.
  • That’s right, Holly’s back, but she and Gail did not get the happy ending their fans wanted. No, actually, Holly is seeing someone else because Gail ignored her calls. We know Gail, we know how Gail deals with things; Holly doesn’t. So, Gail’s uncertainty and teenage behavior (her words) led to Holly moving on. I’m sure there’ll be more to this story.
  • Anyway, Izzy tells her father that when she went to his house, she found Celery doing some kind of fertility ritual. Oliver doesn’t want more kids, he’s got three that he barely sees thanks to work and his divorce, so he needs to speak with Celery and finally have a chance to hang out with his daughter. I love seeing Oliver in dad mode– with his own kids. He’s always on dad mode at the station.
  • Chris doesn’t come into work. He also doesn’t call out until the end of the day, basically. So, Dov does a little snooping in his truck. And what does he find? Just some cocaine. So, he goes home to confront Chris–who is looking pretty rough (but very hot with a beard)– and, in the process, ditches Chloe on her birthday.
  • Chloe was finally broken free from the desk, paired with Nick, and sent to investigate a fire in Little Italy. All day, she’s sure that Dov has something awesome planned but even if he doesn’t, she’ll just watch The Breakfast Club and eat popcorn like always. After Dov ditches her, she gets a present at the front desk thinking he might be redeeming himself, she excitedly opens it only to find that it’s actually from Wes. At this point, if things go wrong with Dov, I’d rather she hook up with Nick than Wes. She and Nick have some awesome chemistry and could actually make a good couple.

It was a rough episode for everyone. No one seemed to be having a good day. Well, except for Traci and Sam who were able to solve their case of the fire in Little Italy. Cases aren’t the draw to this show, though, it’s the characters.

After the promo:

Chris is starting to piss me off. He’s not Dov’s junkie brother? How is that even remotely okay to bring up? Dov and Chloe don’t seem to be faring well after her birthday snub and I might have to place some of that blame on Chris, too. He’s Dov’s best friend, I can’t imagine he’ll be telling anyone about his drug problem. Oh, yeah, and it looks like Traci messed up big time and Detective Peck is none to pleased. Intrigue.

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Going Under

Let me preface this by saying that I need to stop looking at spoilers. Like, I really think I would be so much happier. That McSwarek moment would have been so much sweeter if I hadn’t already seen it in .gif form. But, I’ll get to that later.

  • Chris, man, my love, what are you doing? I know I was excited about the Chris going dark storyline, but it really stressed me out all episode. I had the worst feeling he was going to get caught. And I know he will eventually, because that’s television, but I’m not ready for it. Why can’t anyone see what is actually going on? I mean, I know Dov and Chloe see something is up, but they need to get there faster so they can do something about it. It’s already reached a pretty catastrophic level and I don’t think we can afford for it to get any worse. But it’s kind of obvious, at this point, that it will…
  • I do love when we get to see some of our favorites go under, though. Chris, Dov, and Nick were the ones to do it. Chris was definitely the one who should have come out on top, but he got a little distracted by arresting his drug dealer instead of the illegal arms dealer. Nick spent all night flirting with a bartender and, low and behold, she was the one they wanted all along. I liked Nick a lot in this episode and I liked how Traci and Steve were debating his pickup lines and strategies.
  • Traci and Steve are like a breath of fresh air sometimes. There’s no complicated histories, no third parties— just them doing their thing. I love it. I love that they can work together seamlessly and still make a relationship work. They seem like they’ve got that on lock down. And, you know, as an added bonus, I just love the addition of Steve Peck— not just in Traci’s world, but everyone else’s.
  • Can we all agree that Gail broke our hearts? Don’t get me wrong, I loved her scene with Oliver at the end, but I just feel for her. Let me just say, though, that I am very happy Holly was not the focus of this particular breakdown. Sure, she was a part of it, as it should be, but she was not the main reason Gail was struggling. As Oliver explained, Gail let the job get to her and it got under her skin. We’ve seen this happen with every other rookie, so we know this isn’t some hokey brush off. This is real and that little girl that Gail met last week— the one that lost her mother to a Jameson shootout— got to her and made her rethink things. The job’s not a glamorous one, but once she can move past the pain she’ll get right back to being that kickass cop that gets her reports done on time.
  • Chloe wasn’t a huge player in this episode, but I want to talk about her anyway. I really like seeing her with people other than Dov. We saw a little with Gail, a little with Oliver, a little with Sam and Andy, and we’ve seen her with Chris and Nick in the past. She’s so good and also quite the breath of fresh air, so I like that she’s becoming a real character. I love her.
  • Also, not a huge episode for Sam and Andy, but what we got was pretty damn good. And, that is, communication. They were talking about where to retire like it was nothing. They were joking about seeing each other naked like it was nothing. They were flirty and friendly and it was awesome. But, there was more to it than that. Sam knew that she was taking the allegations from Duncan hard and that she should talk about it. So, instead of making her talk about her issues, he just talked about his experiences. Andy always says that Sam needs to be more open, but we’ve seen time and time again that he’s willing to listen and she doesn’t take it (her first kill, her mother, Duncan). So, now he’s understanding how she works and she’s seeing that he cares enough.

It was a bit of a filler episode for most, but a real juicy one for Chris. I liked it enough, though. It was no Wanting, but that’s just the McSwarek lover in me. We’ve seen glimpses of the earlier seasons shining through this season and I really like that. Seasons 1 and 2 are, without question, the best. I want to see more of that for everyone. (And saying those are the best seasons is no offense to Chloe or Nick or Steve. Seriously. They fit now, but they would not have then).

After the promo:

McSwarek loving and McSwarek fighting. These are things we need. And I am in no way worried about the fighting. And I’m not just saying that because I’ve been spoiled. I’m saying it because they do need to fight some things out. They’ve changed, sure, but they still need to work in order to keep moving together. Which they will.

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Wanting

Ugh, my McSwarek heart is beating overtime this morning. Before I jump into bullet form and talk about everyone, I need to talk about that first scene with Andy and Sam in the kitchen.

First, he brings her coffee, because it’s what friends do (this is where I laugh at the word “friends”), she gives him half a bagel, because… “friends,” and when they’re talking about her training the rookie, Sam tells her to be careful because sometimes they develop feelings and it gets awkward. And I love Sam so freaking much, it’s not even funny! When Andy quips back that she should have told Duncan right off the bat that he wasn’t her type, Sam’s quick to remind her that it doesn’t always work.

I’m sorry, was this not THE PERFECT exchange between two “friends?” The answer is yes, it was the perfect exchange.

Anyway… On to the rest:

  • Dov and Chloe have not had sex since she left the hospital and Chloe is all too quick to fill Nick in on their situation. She requests him to “get some intel on the DL” while he’s partnered with Dov. Poor Nick. The last thing he (or really anyone) wants is to get involved in Dov and Chloe’s relationship. But, Chloe makes him super uncomfortable and he concedes.
  • Dov saw her die, remember? It’s tough for him to want what he wants (Chloe, duh) and not do anything about it. He also doesn’t want to push her or over exert her in any way. Plus, you know, she’s back living with her parents and that can always be a little difficult. By the end of the episode, though, Nick tells them both each others’ deals and is able to walk away just before the making out ensues.
  • See, I like Nick when he’s not sleeping with his co-workers. He’s a good friend— he was to Andy before and during their UC stint and he can be to everyone else if he just keeps his pants on.
  • Gail is not talking to Holly. And she seems okay for the most part. That is until one of the three victims dies and she goes to find her keys and, instead, ends up finding her young daughter. Gail is emotional, always has been, but she’s in a more fragile state now. I mean, she’s had a rough couple of years and she’s dealing with a breakup. I don’t blame her and I totally sympathize with her. And I love her. I love Gail. She’s so real and harsh and amazing.
  • Chris is a little tired during his shift. He had a long night hooking up with a hot date (as far as Gail thinks). We’ve seen his downward spiral start and now we’re watching it play out. I love it, but I’m terrified of what’s to come. I mean, remember when Chris was the puppy that loved everything and everybody? Now he’s suffering in silence and making sketchy drug buys.
  • More Traci and Steve, please? I love them so much and I don’t think I have enough evidence to back that up. Give me more evidence!
  • DUNCAN! You idiot, I really wanted to like you. And you’ve just gone right ahead and ruined that! He is not, in any way, cut out to be a cop. Sometime’s that’s just the way it is. He left Andy, his training officer, alone in a house with a little boy and, you know, just some murderer with an agenda. Ugh, poor Andy! She was calling him and calling him for backup and he just got scared and stayed in the car. I was so mad. And then he tried to play it off like his radio was dead. Come on, man, grow a pair or get off the job.
  • So, Andy had to write all of this in her report and Oliver assured her there would be an investigation and that Duncan would most likely lose his badge. It’s probably good for the city’s population, but sucks for Duncan and definitely hurts McNally. She wanted to do right by him and for him to come out on top. He made it impossible.
  • So, Sam drove her home and they shared a very quiet drive. All day, she and Duncan were arguing about whether or not change was possible. She believes that, yes, it is. But there was some doubt in her mind and when Sam didn’t say anything that would make her feel better, she started to think he hadn’t changed as much as she thought.
  • Sam knows, though, that she doesn’t need him to tell her that she did all she could. She believes in people and when Duncan wasn’t all she believed he could be, it felt like a failure. But, Sam makes sure she knows that she’s one of the best cop’s he’s seen and it’s not her fault. And then she kissed him and it was beautiful and amazing and everything was perfect. He didn’t push her or pressure her— he was willing to be her friend if it’s what she wanted. Of course it’s not, though, because Sam has changed. They both have and they will be their best selves together. I mean, look:

    image

After the Promo:

More Duncan drama. He and his lawyer and, I’m assuming, his very powerful stepfather, are going up against the division and Andy. He’s starting some serious troubles for her. Not cool, man. Not cool.

It also looks like Chris’s dirty little secret might be coming out. It almost look like his dealer showed up at the station. Uh oh. This can’t be good.

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- Heart Breakers, Money Makers

I really loved this episode. It was one of the more lighthearted ones that we don’t get to see all that often anymore. Not that it was fluffy or anything like that, but… I don’t know, I just loved it. And let me tell you why:

  • Peckstein partnership. These two are never going to be an item and, at one point (late season 2), that would have upset me. Now, though, as long as I get to see them as friends, then I’m happy. I don’t know what it is about these two that I love so much, but I really enjoy watching them together and playing off of each other.
  • Gail and Holly hit a bit of a rough patch, though, huh? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say the chick from 27 was hitting on her, too. So, this is going to be a fun season to watch for Gail. I’m ready.
  • Chris is starting to lose his cool. I mean, who knows when he started, but we got to really see it shine this episode. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like seeing Chris hurting or suffering, but I do like seeing character growth. I really hope we get to see this storyline play out to its end. Sometimes, with the amount of characters on this show, we don’t always get to see that (Noelle and her cancer scare, for example, was just brushed by last season).
  • He also got to organize Fite Nite! I loved Fite Nite back in season one, so I was really looking forward to it this time around. Especially since Duncan was supposed to fight. I know he’s not the greatest cop, but I sure do enjoy him. Too bad he “hurt his shoulder” and withdrew from the fight, causing Nick to sub in.
  • Nick got his ass kicked. Am I right? I don’t even feel bad. He should have bowed out when he got the chance, but then he saw Andy and Sam come in together and he, what? Tried to be a hero? Gain her sympathy? Whatever it was, I wasn’t about that. I’m over this love triangle and I really hope that’s the last of it.
  • What I’m not over? Any scene with him and Chloe. She’s hilarious and he’s too cool to show any real excitement, so the two of them together are great. Ever since they worked Sam’s task force last season, I’ve wanted to see more of them together.
  • Oliver is struggling in his new role, but he’s going to make a great staff sergeant. And he’s there for his people. He had Dov and Gail’s backs when Jarvis found them at the Fraud Squad case and he’ll always have everyone’s back. Because that is Oliver and I love him.
  • So, Sam’s back at work. And he and Andy were on fire this episode. Seriously, I’m talking like season 2 type of fire over here. They had the flirty eyes, the banter, the back and forth, the partnership. For real, this is all I want in the world. I want to see these two working together while getting their personal life in check in the meantime.
  • You can’t convince me these two aren’t endgame, so don’t even try. They just get each other and it is beyond wonderful to watch.

Thoughts after the promo:

Sam and Andy. Chloe and Nick. Chloe and Dov. I am already so into this season that I can’t imagine being anymore excited. But every promo so far has only upped the ante. Give me the next episode now, please?

Let’s talk about Rookie Blue- All By Her Selfie

Duncan “Selfie” Moore sure is going to be a fun ride— for the audience, at least. Andy may not feel the same. I think, overall, Andy is going to make a great training officer. I don’t doubt it and I’m glad Sam suggested it. Selfie, though, is going to be a challenge. He’s just so gung ho. Like, he’s on a whole new level. He’s like rookie-Dov on speed. Now, Dov has grown up and turned into a great cop, so maybe Duncan will become a “super cop.” Who knows?

His first day on the job, he gets his fingerprints all over evidence, he chokes on a peanut, he gives the worst death notification EVER, and we find out his step-father is the commissioner. He’s kind of a mess, but I still kind of love him. And to add to all of his own mistakes, Andy let the first suspect in the murder case walk. The actual robber of the pawn shop got out of Selfie’s grasp mid-handcuffing and wielded a sword. So, you know, just another day at 15.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Oliver is the new staff sergeant and he hates it. He’s one of the street guys, but John Jarvis wanted him. And, so, now he’s rocking the white shirt. If I do say so myself, he’s rocking that white shirt. He’s like the dad of this whole operation anyway. Therefore, he’s going to do great once he gets used to being off the streets.

He wasn’t exactly excited when Andy offered to be Duncan’s TO, but he relented. Oliver was a great training officer. He let his rookies breathe before jumping in, he gave them the talk, he cares about them to this very day. Andy needs to find her own rhythm and her own routine, but she needs to remember where she came from, too. Oliver, Sam, and Noelle are pretty solid examples to look to.

While Andy was dealing with her aspect of the case and her new little buddy, Traci was on a mission to work an eight hour day. She doesn’t want to break anymore promises. And, thanks to Steve Peck, she made it out of work in eight hours and got Leo “The Lion” Nash to hockey on time. Take that, Dex!

Chris Diaz is making me a little nervous, guys. I mean, he’s not acting like Chris, my favorite puppy, at all. During the ping pong game in the opening scene, he took that random girl’s shot without permission, he flirted with a possible suspect and then, when she was cleared, called her up and asked her out. I get that he’s got a lot going on and I see that his friends are tied up with their own lives and issues, so I see what he’s doing. And I’m actually very excited to see it play out. Maybe he needs to go a little darker before he can find himself for real.

Dov and Chloe talked out the whole husband situation. Well, Chloe talked. And Dov didn’t exactly seemed pleased with what she had to say. I can’t blame him. Finding out your girlfriend has a husband is kind of earth shattering news. They ended their scene in a kiss, though, and Dov was smiling, but we will see.

Sam Swarek had a couple of hospital visitors in this week’s episode. Andy joined him after a ping pong win— a little drunk— and this is when she told him about Oliver as the new staff sergeant and the new rookie. It’s where Sam told her to that she would be good as a training officer. It’s where she was comfortable enough to hop onto his hospital bed and have this conversation. That is until Sarah Swarek joined them. Before leaving the two brooding siblings alone, Andy offered to give Sarah a ride to the train the next day until she remembered that she doesn’t have a car. So, Sam told her to take the truck and it was decided.

(Sam effortlessly letting Andy take his sacred truck just makes my McSwarek heart beat).

I don’t know why Sarah stuck around as long as she did. She clearly doesn’t respect Sam’s feelings toward their father and, yeah, I know there’s more to that story. We only know what Sam told Marlo last season, though, and that is more than enough for me to take his side in this one. Sarah is the one who can’t seem to move on from whatever ripped her and Sam apart. He seemed happy to have her around and it was like she couldn’t wait to get out of there. So, of course, she had to nail some doubt into Andy’s mind.

When Andy drove her to the train, Sarah asked if she had any idea what was going on in Sam’s head. This, of course, has always been and issue for Sam and Andy. And even though Andy acknowledged that Sam seemed more open since he woke up form surgery, when Sam texted her to ask if she was coming by, she said she wasn’t and that she needed some time. Poor Sam. Like, first Sarah throws a knock knock joke in his face and then this?

I’m not worried. We knew this wasn’t going to be simple. Things rarely are. But these two have grown so damn much that I know they’re going to be okay. And if I’m wrong… Well, I don’t think I’m wrong. I have enough faith thanks to the text Sam sent back telling Andy that he wasn’t going anywhere. BAM! Progress.

Thoughts after the promo:

I think I might do this from now on. Not just with Rookie Blue, but every show I write about.

In this instance, it looks like they are really trying to go for this love triangle showdown. Andy, Sam, and Nick. Chloe, Dov, and Wes. I hope next week is the end of that nonsense. I hate love triangles. Really, I’m over them. Especially these two. As an audience, we don’t know Wes and we love Dov. So, obviously, like 99.99% of us are team Dov and just don’t want to see him suffer any more. He’s clearly not happy with the situation and just wants things to go back to normal. SO DO I! Chloe and Dov make me so happy. Keep it that way!

And don’t even get me started on Nick and Andy… Even if you are a McSwarek fan, you do not want me to start that rant.

Rookie Blue. Season 5. Six Minute Preview. Dying.

I’m feeling so many things right now, it’s hard to function. I shall try, though.

Okay, here we go.

  1. Sarah Swarek has finally entered the picture. Thank god. And, okay, so she doesn’t seem like the most upbeat person in the world, but that will only bring us closer to the truth about Sam’s past. I’M READY FOR THAT.
  2. As if Traci hasn’t lived through enough, now she’s dealing with a custody battle? That makes me really sad.
  3. Her and Steve should be interesting. Adam MacDonald seemed to sum it up: Traci’s focus is on her son and Steve’s focus is on Traci. It should make for a VERY interesting season for them.
  4. Gail and Holly, we’ll see. I’m still not 100% sold, but who knows how I’ll feel after some more interaction. Holly’s no Chris, though, am I right?
  5. And Chris. YES! I see a real storyline in his future and I couldn’t be more pumped for it. He’s such an underrated character and his storylines are often sped through or glossed over. I need more for him and it looks like… we might get more? AND MORE OLIVER. SO MUCH MORE.
  6. Andy McNally: Training Officer. Yes, yes, yes. I am so pumped for this. Selfie is going to be a handful and watching her navigate this new role will be fascinating.
  7. All right, I’m intrigued with Dov and Chloe. I saw some BTS pictures that seemed to shed a different light on where those two are going, but this preview went a totally different direction. Color me excited, friends. I love Chloe and I just can’t wait to see more of her. Thanks for not killing her off, writers!
  8. I’m over love triangles, though. Looking at you McCollins/McSwarek.
  9. BUT McSWAREK! Shut up! I’m so excited for their relationship to restart. And I’d been expecting something to happen immediately, but it doesn’t look that way. Which is a good thing, because the two of them have been through so much— together and a part. They need to move forward at the same pace if we want them to end up okay. WHICH WE DO. I NEED IT.
  10. Season 5 looks like it could be an amazing season with amazing stories to tell. I can’t express how much it’s killing me to wait any longer.

Let’s talk about friendships

I know, I know- Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. And I was going to make a post that would reflect this particular holiday. However, I am as single as it gets and decided that I didn’t want to look at a bunch of happy couples on my blog. I want to look at some awesome friendships that make me realize it doesn’t matter whether or not I have a man in my life. As long as I have someone I love, Friday is just another great start to a weekend.

The Rookies- Rookie Blue

image

If you haven’t noticed, Rookie Blue is my favorite show. I actually had a tough time choosing between the rookies and Sam and Oliver, but the show is called Rookie Blue for a reason.

Andy, Traci, Gail, Chris, and Dov are the original rookies and among the five of them, there are some amazing dynamics. Really, any combination of the five works. When the five are together, it works even better. I love these guys. I even love Nick Collins. He makes things a little complicated because he keeps sleeping with one of the originals, but when things are calm, the six of them mesh really well. Let’s hope season five brings some of that calm, huh?

The Friends- Friends

image

Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross. The best friendship in television history, if I do say so myself. Can I point out a specific scene? Good, because I was going to anyway.

The six of them are in the living room, scattered around the coffee table when a knock sounds on the front door. They look at each other’s faces, confused, as Phoebe counts the amount of people in the room. Who could possibly be knocking on the door when all six of them are already there?

I love that scene! They get that it’s weird to just have the six of them and no other friends, but it works. Like, that’s all there is to it. The six of them are friends, lifelong friends, that only need each other.

Shawn and Gus – Psych

image

These two are hilarious, right? They’ve been friends since, well, forever. There are all those flashbacks of the two of them growing up together only to bring it back to the present where they’re still hanging out, working together and being best friends. Gus is the ultimate sidekick and most of the time he doesn’t even mind it. He’s there for Shawn because Shawn is his best friend and together they are saving Santa Barbara.

Schmidt and Nick- New Girl

image

They’ve been roommates for over ten years now (well, I guess not anymore) and they have definitely had their rough times. We all know Schmidt is kind of a douche, but we love him a whole lot, right? I mean, I know I do! And Nick Miller is a bit of a mess, but we also love him. Put ‘em together and they’re a couple of wild and crazy guys. Their Tinfinity was the epitome of Schmidt and Nick— Schmidt made sure that it was perfect and that everything was made out of tin. Nick’s whole life turned into a battle to get their party guests to use his used port-a-potty. And then the two of them fought before ultimately being there for each other. Because they are best friends.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all of the roommates and I love them all together. However, it’s these two and their fights about cookies that make everything worth it.

Sherlock and Joan- Elementary

image

I know that a lot of people want to see these two end up together and maybe I do, too. But, for now, I am really loving the close knit friendship they’ve got going. Sherlock doesn’t open up much, but when he does it’s to Joan. And Joan was really confused about what she wanted out of her life up until she started as Sherlock’s sober companion. Now, the two of them are working together with the NYPD to solve crimes. Their chemistry is great and, yeah, maybe it will lead to something more one day, but where they’re at is pretty great, right?

The Gang- How I Met Your Mother

image

I could have done almost any combination of Ted, Marshall, Lily, Barney, and Robin. I’m not going to, though. The five of them together, sitting around their usual table at MacLaren’s or in Ted and Marshall’s (originally) apartment. This last season has been a little tough for me, because I hated the division. I know it was mostly just Marshall on his own, but that’s hard enough. And, okay, there are relationship issues- Ted and Robin, anyone?- but friendship comes first. Plus, quotes from this show find their way into my daily vocabulary and that’s always a plus!

Max and Brad- Happy Endings

image

Don’t even get me started on how much I miss this show! I could go on and on, but I won’t. As much as I love the entire, insane group, it’s Max and Brad that I miss the most. They made the least sense on paper- Brad was super successful, had a beautiful wife, and always dressed to impress. Max was broke as all hell, drove around a 1980’s limo to scam tourists, and regularly shared his bed with a pizza. Yet, Max and Brad were THE BEST. The dancing, the jokes, the unbreakable bond- the two of them rocked Chicago.

Rory and Lane- Gilmore Girls

image

I wanted to end this list on some of my favorite girl friends. First, I’m focusing on Rory Gilmore and Lane Kim from my beloved Gilmore Girls. They bonded over music- the more obscure, the better. Rory and Lorelai’s house was Lane’s home away from home, a home where she could be who she wanted to be. For the majority of their lives, they only had each other and, yeah, eventually they got other friends and boyfriends, but they always remained best friends.

Penny and Bernadette and Amy- The Big Bang Theory

image

For a long, long time Penny was the only girl in a group of super nerdy guys. And it worked, it really did. Things really rounded out, though, when Bernadette and then Amy fell in love with a couple of those nerds. Penny finally had a couple of girls to chat with. She no longer had to split her time between the longing looks from Leonard and the more than confusing talks with Sheldon. Sure, Amy can be a little strange in her own right, but she’s there for Penny and Bernadette. Just like they’re there for her.

Fiona and Veronica- Shameless

image

Fiona Gallagher does not have a simple life. She never has and, by the looks of it, she never will. But she does have some pretty great friends in her neighbors, Veronica a Kevin. Especially Veronica. Fiona had to be an adult WAY too soon. She basically started raising her siblings at the age of six and when the show started, she was a 21 year old taking care of her five siblings. Right away, we found out that Veronica was her only escape from the mess that was her family. When she didn’t have to make breakfast and change diapers, she spent her time at clubs with Veronica- dancing or working, at least they had each other.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Veronica and Wallace- Veronica Mars

Lorelai and Sookie- Gilmore Girls

Rusty and Cappy- Greek

Brennan and Angela- Bones

Team Arrow (Oliver, Dig, and Felicity)- Arrow

Now, don’t get me wrong, I could have done a list of my top 50 ships of all time. Maybe I will one day! Also, if you’re in love, great! But, you’ve all still got friends, right? And they’re there for you no matter what, right? So, I wanted to focus on some fictional friendships to reflect that. I’m most likely spending tomorrow night with a friend or two because when you’re single, you’ve got to stick together!
